THE EMPEROR OF SHOES finds a young man, Alex Cohen, taking over for his father at running the family shoe factory in China, only to discover that the workers are being exploited, the regulatory system has failed them, and his father had been paying bribes to the government. When he meets a young woman working at the factory who is an ardent labor leader fighting for worker's rights, he must decide whether to keep his loyalty to his father and the generations before them that built their business, or to support the pro-democratic revolt fomenting on his factory floor.
